The Tennessee Board of Regents (TBR) is Tennessee's largest higher education system, governing 40 post-secondary educational institutions with over 200 teaching locations. The TBR system includes 13 community colleges and 27 colleges of applied technology, providing programs to students across the state, country and world.
The Tennessee College of Applied Technology Crump is accepting applications for the full-time, non-exempt position of Student Success Coach to provide holistic student support throughout a student’s tenure at TCAT Crump.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities:
• Coordinate and teach the Technology Foundations academic support program for students in applied mathematics, graphic literacy, and reading for information.
• Teach the Work Ethics curriculum with basic computer skills, college success and career skills.
• Monitor, grade and evaluate individual students’ performance progress; maintain appropriate documentation of student progress & student academic records in the college’s student records management software; submit timely reports.
• Maintain accurate records for all students to progress through their programs, for registration, attendance, grades, program of study, satisfactory progress, completion status, awards, certifications and placement.
• Establish intervention sessions with students with issues impeding progress. Develop a relationship with instructors and student services to ensure the resolution of such student issues.
• Assist with prospective students’ enrollment needs concerning articulation and the evaluation of educational credits.
• Participate in student organizations.
• Plan and facilitate student development of soft skills that enhance career readiness such as resume/cover letter development, interviewing strategies & financial literacy.
• Assist in the placement of students which includes career counseling to help students identify academic and career goals, discover job opportunities, certifications and additional training opportunities they are interested in pursuing.
• Maintain good public relations with businesses and industries to identify their employment needs, promote the ideals of technical education and implement an effective placement program for students.
• Responsible for lab/classroom equipment and supplies; ensure the lab/classroom is organized and safe.
• Make recommendations for and maintain updated instructional equipment and materials.
• Start and end class at the designated time.
• Assist with campus tours, new student orientation, commencement ceremonies and other College activities as needed.
• Participate in in-service training, workshops, conferences, TBR meetings and other programs which provide for professional growth.
• Travel throughout the service area to deliver services at all teaching locations, instructional service centers and extension campuses.
• Perform other duties as directed and assigned by the administration.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution.
• Minimum 5 years professional work experience.
• Prior teaching and/or training experience preferred.
• Established ability to effectively supervise, plan, prioritize and coordinate the work of others
• Ability to listen to customers (e.g., students, faculty, staff, employers, etc.), understand, and respond positively to their requests.
• Evidence of effective communication abilities both written and verbally to express ideas clearly, concisely, and convincingly; to relate to a diverse faculty, staff, and student population; and to deal tactfully with the public.
• Established ability to exercise good judgment in evaluating situations and making decisions.
• Ability to utilize Microsoft Office programs, audio/visual equipment, and social media; and working knowledge of maintaining student records and/or sensitive information.
• Possess a sincere commitment to student success.
• Able to work a schedule that includes evening hours and travel to satellite class locations.
• Exhibit excellent professional ethics.
• Valid Driver’s License
Working Conditions:
• Heavy use of computer
• Normal standing, sitting, and walking.
• Operating a motor vehicle to travel within the college service area and in other areas as needed.
Salary: $41,651 - $52,064, Pay grade 8. Commensurate with Tennessee College of Applied Technology salary guidelines.
