Title: Temporary - Peer Advisor, ESOL Connect
POSITION SUMMARY
ESOL Connect is a peer advising initiative within the Student Success Center that engages former high-achieving English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) students to serve as Peer Advisors. In this role advisors provide one-on-one support to a small caseload of up to 15 students per term, offering guidance on coursework, campus resources, and overall college navigation.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS/JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Conduct monthly one-on-one check-ins with advisees. Design and lead monthly student workshops. Motivate students to set and achieve academic goals. Encourage academic success and foster student engagement. Maintain clear, professional, and timely communication. Participate in required training sessions.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Current NSCC student
Have completed ESOL courses or enrolled in the last semester of ESOL classes.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
GPA of 2.5 or higher
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications. Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Demonstrated professionalism, including punctuality, reliability, and active listening. Enthusiasm for supporting the mission and community of Nashville State Community College. Commitment to helping peers connect with the college community, set goals, and make progress towards degree completion. Passion for peer mentorship, and student success. Ability to maintain confidentiality and demonstrate cultural sensitivity.
